Germany: A Reluctant Leader Moving into the Spotlight
Germany is entering 2017 with a number of unresolved issues. Domestically, the September 24th general election might see an important political shift should Chancellor Angela Merkel be forced to step down. Internationally, Germany must defend its dominant role within the EU and the EZ, which many countries are now beginning to resent. Furthermore, the country’s position is going to be decisive in upcoming negotiations on Brexit and Grexit. In this report, we discuss the impact of all these issues on macroeconomic, political and market developments.
